Mexico

I’m in San Luis Potosi.
It’s hot: mercury pools in the sand.
First day of summer
Feels like August here.
The air tastes
Like chiles and cebollas.
At night, I dance
On vermilion clay.
White eyelet skirts
Spin around me.
A man strums
el guitarra de azul.
My skin shines
Like manjar.

  1. These are great. I really like this sister, Smithey. You should try and get these published. Or maybe they already are. It's just so hard to get anything published in those top journals. Even my favorite poet of all time published in "little" journals because "the good ones" wouldn't publish his work. But I don't know anything. I haven't really even tried too dilligently to get my work out. Maybe The Paris Review will publish everything you send them....Charlie...who is Val LInd...I don't even know how that happened....
